Despre rubrica: O privire episodica (procedurala chiar ) asupra serialelor ce au reusit si vor reusi in continuare sa invinga timpul si sa ramana vesnic tinere. Chiar daca putinul timp liber ramas poate fi usor umplut cu oferta bogata din prezent, orice iubitor de seriale isi datoreaza sa incerce macar o parte din clasicele ce au au dat forma show-urilor curente (sau cel putin au incercat, multe lovindu-se din pacate de vesnicul zid mainstream).

The Office (UK) (2001 – 2003, 14 ep. / 2 sez.)

Pe scurt:

Înainte de Steve Carell a fost Ricky Gervais. Cam cu 4 ani inainte decă e să intrăm în detalii. Mai exact, în 2001, Ricky Gervais, împreună cu Stephen Merchant, au scris și regizat pentru postul BBC un micuț serial numit The Office. Acesta se baza pe stilul “mockumentary”, fiind o comedie filmată în stil documentar, personajele vorbind deseori direct spre cameră și luând cunoștință de prezența acesteia.

Din nou, iar și încă o dată, precum multe seriale devenite între timp clasice, The Office a avut rating-uri jenant de mici. Pe parcurs a început să-și revină, însă tot s-a oprit după doar 14 episoade, Gervais și Merchant considerând că au prezentat tot ce aveau de prezentat. Cuvinte mult prea rar auzite în ziua de azi în această industrie.

Ce a urmat a fost o adevărată nebunie, The Office devenind între timp unul dintre cele mai de succes exporturi britanice în domeniul TV. A fost preluat în peste 80 de țări și când puținele episoade s-au terminat, au început să curgă pe bandă rulantă spinoff-urile. Aproape toată lumea a auzit de The Office versiunea NBC, însă pe lângă aceasta mai există o versiune franceză numită “Le Bureau”, una germană – “Stromberg”, “Os Aspones” din Brazilia, “La Job” (silly canadians) și multe altele.

De departe cel mai de succes spinoff e cel realizat de NBC, cu Steve Carell în rol principal. De aici rezultă și desele glume ale lui Gervais de fiecare dată când cei doi se întâlnesc la vreo ceremonie.  Pentru cei ce urmăresc versiunea americană, tot ce pot să zic e că aceasta e extrem de fidel modelată pe cea britanică. Personajele sunt preluate aproape la indigo și multe dintre întâmplările din birou sunt inspirate din cele 14 episoade originale. Însă ca o remarcă personală, versiunea UK e muuult, mult, mult mai autentică, mai comică și în același timp mai jenantă. Și indiferent cât de fain îl joacă Steve Carell pe Michael Scott, Ricky Gervais e cu 2,3 nivele peste. S-a născut pentru rolul ăsta!

Pentru cei care nu sunt la curent cu franciza, acțiunea serialului se petrece în biroul unei companii ce se ocupă cu distribuția de hârtie. Aici se află vreo 10 – 15 angajați, care de care mai trăznit, ciudat și “special”. Iar cel mai cel dintre toți e chiar șeful filialei, un “virgin de 40 de ani” care reușește în absolut fiecare episod să intre în situații atât de jenante încât ți-e greu să te mai uiți la ecran. Mai ceva ca la un film horror.

Gareth: It’s possible, yeah.
Tim: That’s all we wanted to know.

Gareth: We go there every Wednesday night, and it’s a fun place, but it’s full of loose women. My own problem with that is venereal disease, which is disabilitating right, especially for a soldier. And it’s irresponsible to the rest of your unit as well, right. You’ve been under attack for days, there’s a soldier down, he’s wounded, gangrene’s setting in, ‘who’s used all the penicillin?’ ‘Oh, Mark Paxon sir, he’s got knobrot off some tart’

David Brent: I gave a speech only this morning to my staff assuring them that there would not be cutbacks at this branch and there certainly wouldn’t be redundancies, so…
Jennifer Taylor-Clark: Well, why on Earth would you do that?
David Brent: Why? Oh, don’t know. A little word I think’s important in management called morale.
Jennifer Taylor-Clark: Well, surely it’s going to be worse for morale in the long run when there ARE redundancies and you’ve told people that there won’t be.
[pause]
David Brent: They won’t remember.

David: Funny enough, the reason why women wear necklaces is to draw attention to the breasts.
Date #1: I don’t.
David: No, I mean, subconsciously.
Date #1: No, I don’t. I wear this because my mother gave it to me before she died.
David: Yeah, well, I mean, she probably wanted to draw attention to hers, but I mean…
Date #1: Sorry, can we not talk about my dead mother’s breasts?

David: Do you know the reason why men are attached to cleavage? It’s because it reminds us of a woman’s buttocks. Because I suppose presumably when we were cavemen we used to do you from behind, so we like the–. And then we evolved and probably turned you over when language came in to either chat, or just to look at the breasts that reminded us of the buttock in the first place.
Date #1: Can we not talk about breasts, full stop?

David Brent: Avoid employing unlucky people – throw half of the pile of CVs in the bin without reading them.

Tim: No I don’t talk about my love life for a very good reason, and that reason is I don’t have one. Which is very good news for the ladies-I am still available. I’m a heck of a catch, cos, er well look at it. I live in Slough, in a lovely house, with my parents. I have my own room, which I’ve had since yep, since I was born. That’s seen a lot of action I tell you. Mainly dusting. I went to university for a year as well, before I dropped out, so I’m a quitter. So, er, form an orderly queue ladies.

Gareth: Condoms come in all different flavours nowadays. There’s strawberry and curry and that. Do you like curry?

Dawn: I’d be lying if I said my life had turned out exactly as I’d expected. My old school recently had a reunion, which I didn’t go to, but one girl in my class it turns out, right, she is now running her own Internet auction website, making a fortune, and is happily married to a marine biologist. She used to eat chalk.
